Who we are

The Graduate Applications International Network (GAIN) supports prospective graduate students from all countries across Africa applying for excellent programs (both Master and PhD) in economics and related fields (public policy, political science, etc.). African scholars are strongly under-represented in economics research globally. GAIN supports graduate applicants through information sharing, mentoring, peer-to-peer support, and reduction of financial barriers, with the goal of strengthening the pipeline for African students into the economics profession.

What we offer

GAIN offers a three-part program to support graduate school applicants in economics and related fields, starting in March of each year. Part 1 consists of a webinar series, which introduces the different aspects of the application process, including GRE preparation, school selection, recommendation letters, motivational statements, scholarships, etc.

Successful graduates of the first part can apply to participate in part 2 of the program, which includes one-to-one mentoring by global research professionals throughout the application cycle. Selected students will also receive financial support to cover application expenses, including fees for standardized tests and applications.

Once admitted into a program, mentees can join our third part, the GAIN Alumni Network, where we offer graduate school support such as monthly check-in calls and targeted webinars. With this, we aim to increase the study success and graduation rate of our participants.
